Therapeutic / Medical Massage
Therapeutic/Medical massage caters to your specific needs and goals and works towards pain relief and management as well as specific injuries or areas that hold chronic stress or tension. Pressure ranges from lighter touch (work with the connective tissue aka fascia), to deep tissue as needed. These sessions are always unique and individualized.
Heather is licensed and trained as a Medical Massage Therapist, and integrates this background (and continuing education) in all of her sessions, as her understanding of human anatomy, kinesiology, and the myoskeletal system ever-evolves.
Craniosacral & Body-Energy Work
Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. Working with the central nervous system, craniosacral techniques create space in the cranium and vertebrae in which major nerves stem. This method consists of extended holds and a “listening” to the cranial fluid that is palpable through the skull and other parts of the body.
Working with the central nervous system in this way helps to restore the body to its balanced state in which healing can occur naturally in all levels of being (mind, body, spirit). Craniosacral therapy is available as a full-length session or as a part of a therapeutic massage.
Body-energy work is involved in all massage and bodywork sessions because of the inherent and inseparable fact that the body is energy. Intentional body-energy sessions are designed to hold space for the stories, traumas, ailments, and stresses patterned into the cells and tissues to be heard without words.
These types of sessions are much less active than traditional massage therapy sessions, and can be quite profound and softening.
Prenatal & Postpartum Massage
Heather offers both prenatal and postpartum massage. She is certified in prenatal massage and works individually with each client to provide the care needed. Proper precautions, bolsters and support are provided. Prenatal massage is used to relieve aches, pains and stress associated with pregnancy. Energetic space is also held for the baby in these sessions.
Postpartum care varies from soon after to much longer after birth. Heather understands that each person’s experiences with postpartum physical, mental and emotional changes are unique. The goal with postpartum massage is restoration and whole body (re)connection.
Muscle energy technique (MET) involves a careful positioning of an area of the body followed by the use of an isometric contraction, geared towards improving myoskeletal and joint function, and improving pain. We work with your muscle's own energy in the form of gentle isometric contractions to relax and reposition the muscles or joints via autogenic or reciprocal inhibition (aka lengthening and contracting the muscle at a pace that facilitates release). METs are most often used as a part of a therapeutic/medical massage rather than implemented for the entirety the session.
Myofascial tissues are defined as the tough membranes that wrap, connect and support your muscles. Myofascial massage uses light, prolonged pressure that releases and restores flexibility and mobility to this tissue.
Because of its nature, working in this myofascial level connects to the whole body and has the ability to unravel and provide release to deeper layers and chronic holding patterns.
Myofascial release is often woven into a therapeutic/medical massage, and is also available as a full-length session option.
The fascial system in our bodies is, in Heather’s opinion, truly fascinating. She will happily share with you all she knows about it if you are curious and want to learn more about this continuous webbing, crystalline-like tissue that envelopes our entire structures ~ each muscle, bone, and tendon.
Hot Stone Therapy
Integrating the use of hot stones in a massage session helps to relieve muscle tension and pain. It may also be used to reduce stress and anxiety. Stones may be placed in specific sites of injury or strain, as well as be used alongside manual touch to encourage relief and release of muscle and connective tissue tension. Hot stones are included in each session unless otherwise requested.
“REMEDY” CBD Healing Balm (made with love by Heather and also available at Moon Rose studio for purchase) is included in every session unless otherwise requested. CBD has been shown to promote healing and restoration in cells and tissues. This balm helps to reduce inflammation and pain in muscles, joints and other soft tissues. This will prolong the benefits of the massage session.
The suction treatment provided by the Eastern art of cupping was designed to free any stagnant energy in the body associated with injury or tension. The prolonged suction will release toxins, metabolic waste, and increase blood flow to the area. Cupping is known for restoring range of motion in joints, as well as rejuvenating the myofascial connective tissue surrounding the area. Cupping can be incorporated to any session at your request, with no additional fee.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage is a type of gentle manual therapy that promotes and encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body. The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from the bodily tissues.
